  • Intimacy and engagement in relationships

  • Emotional thinking

Frequently Asked Questions

Why has my doctor recommended OT?

Your child’s physician/teacher/health nurse has requested an evaluation to determine if therapy services could improve your child’s abilities. Occupational therapy makes it possible for children with developmental challenges to function as well as possible in day-to-day activities and live their lives to the fullest.

How do I make an appointment?

You can get in touch via email, phone call or contact form. All details on ‘contact us’ (see above).

Can I talk to the clinician privately without the child being present?

Let your child’s therapist know before the session begins if you would like to speak privately so that she can plan the session accordingly. If your child cannot be left alone, consider bringing another adult or older child with you. You may also wish to discuss options such as scheduling a consultation, phone call, or communicating with the therapist via secure email.

How do I prepare my child for their visit?

We understand that your child may feel anxious about their visit, so we will do everything we can to help them to feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. Our therapy areas are child-friendly and bright. It may also help to explain that unlike a visit to the doctor there are no medicines or injections involved.

COVID Precautions:
  • Mask wearing is encouraged but is dependent on the clients’ sensory needs.
  • Only one parent/carer may remain present at any given time in the clinic to reduce close contacts.
  • Parents/carers are required to wear face masks throughout the appointment. They must ensure that both their noses and mouths are covered at all times.
  • Please wait in your car until your appointment time. If you see that there is another family in the entrance area, please wait until they have come in/out of the clinic before you enter.
  • Clinician will be wearing PPE at all times to ensure safety for all.
  • As healthcare is an essential service, your child’s therapist may be closer than the current 2 metre guidelines and/or be in direct contact with your child during the therapy session. This is necessary in order to provide intervention and we aim to reduce the risks by ensuring our therapists practice good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette and wear face masks for the duration of the intervention session.
Do I need a medical referral?

No, we have an open referral system (i.e., a parent or legal guardian can contact the clinic to book an appointment).

Can I claim from my health insurance company

This is dependent on your health care provider and on your plan. Many insurance companies cover a percentage of the cost once the clinician is registered with their national body. The clinic is presently registered with VHI, Laya and Irish Life.

When are therapy times available?

The first appointment time is 9 am and the last is 4.45 pm. Please keep in mind that therapy services are in high demand during peak hours after school. The more flexible you can be regarding times, the sooner your child can receive service.

How many sessions will my child be seen for?

The purpose of therapy is to help your child become as independent as possible in normal daily activities. The length of intervention varies depending on your child’s condition, their age and a wide range of other factors. Soon after your child starts therapy, your therapist will talk with you about how many therapy sessions they will need.

Do I need to remain present for the session?

A parent or legal guardian must be present at your child’s initial therapy evaluation. This is important so that you can give consent for your child to be treated. The most important thing you can do for your child is to make sure a parent or caregiver attends every therapy session.

One of our primary goals is to give your entire family skills and knowledge to help your child gain the greatest benefit from therapy. Older children/adolescents may prefer to attend their therapy sessions without their legal guardian present. If this is appropriate it may be accommodated once there is written consent and the therapist is in agreement.
