About Occupational Therapy
What is Occupational Therapy in this setting?
Occupational therapy is a health profession offering assistance to children, adolescents and their support networks to enable them to reach their optimal potential and live their lives to the fullest. Occupational Therapists are concerned with developing the skills and underlying abilities which their clients need to perform everyday activities such as:
- At home: eating, dressing, toileting and following routines
- Preschool/school: playing, drawing, writing, attention and concentration, listening to instructions, organisational skills and following a school routine
- Social setting: responding to new situations, self-regulation, emotional and behavioural responses and ability to interact with others.
The approach we use in The Hummingbird Clinic is fun and person-centred ensuring the active engagement of our clients. The importance of empowering parents, educators and other professionals by providing practical strategies to meet individual needs is at the core of our work. Along with therapy at the clinic, we also offer support through school visits, telehealth, webinars and coaching sessions depending on the needs and preferences of our clients.
